Setting the scene for FRDS in the Murray Region
The Murray region has been one of the hardest hit dairy regions during the period 2000 to 2010 due to declining rainfall and irrigation water availability. This presentation provides an overview of the situation into which Future Ready Dairy Systems needed to operate:
- Climate variability is the significant on-farm challenge
- Farms have a ‘coping range’ and adaptation is about increasing that coping range
- Irrigation allocations have declined dramatically since the 1990s
- A process to identify the key local issues for FRDS is outlined.
