The key messages were to encourage farmer to improve milk production efficiency through the use of improved technology and management practices. Over 50 exhibitors were on display to engage with dairy farmers over two days.
The event was successful because it achieved the original aims, including:
Approximately 300 visitors over the two days.
80% participation of Bega Valley dairy farmers, plus significant visitation from outside bega (Vic and NSW).
Diverse new technology was on offer to dairy farmers, including ones that are emerging and not yet well understood.
Since the event several local dairy farmers have indicated they are now contemplating technology upgrades regarding solar hot water systems.
A leading local farmer reported that he was bowled over by the expo and the fact that he was previously unaware of some key technologies regarding dairy shed equipment.
Most farmers found the event very useful to learn on the day by seeing demonstrations of the technology, and being able to ask “silly questions” and get competent answers.
Exhibitors found the event positive because they experienced direct access to dairy farmer clients, which doesn’t often happen at other larger (all industry) events and field days.
One major exhibitor said it was the best field day he’d ever been to!
